In my hometown, Arlit, north of Niger, Areva has been mining uranium since 1976. Nowadays, an important part of the region is contaminated. Radioactivity is invisible, and the population is not informed of all the risks involved. During the year, heavy winds blow and cover up the whole city. These dusty winds spread radioactive substances. Everyone seeks shelter. The city calms down, and all activity stops.
